Amtrak Fall 2018 Vacation - A Day in Los Angeles October 25

Arrived in Los Angeles 8:40 AM this Thursday morning. After checking into the Metropolitan Lounge for sleeping car passenger, I took Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner to Fullerton to eat lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Walked around and then returned by train to Los Angeles Union Station and decided to rest in the lounge until time to board the Southwest Chief for my return to Chicago. It leaves at 6 PM.

Amtrak Fall 2018 Vacation - Journeying Through New Mexico October 24

Trip is going well and on time. Began this morning in La Junta, Colorado. Journeying through New Mexico today. Fresh air breaks were Raton and Albuquerque.

Tonight we travel through Flagstaff and across Northern Arizona arriving in Los Angeles around 8 AM. 

Amtrak Fall 2018 Vacation - The Journey Begins

Flew from Nashville to Chicago this morning. Shuttled from airport to Chicago Union Station. Boarded Amtrak’s Southwest Chief and departed on time 2:50 PM. The journey just begun We are headed to Kansas City tonight.

Amtrak Fall Vacation Preview

I depart early Tuesday October 23 morning flying American Airlines 7 AM to Chicago O'Hare Airport from which I will shuttle to Chicago's Union Station. Tuesday afternoon I depart on Amtrak's Southwest Chief to Los Angeles, California, arriving Thursday morning October 25. I plan to take a local train from Los Angeles Union Station to Fullerton, CA, to eat lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory. After lunch I will return by train to Union Station and depart on the Southwest Chief back to Chicago arriving October 27 late afternoon. I will stay one night in Chicago at the Hampton Inn West Loop October 27 about 3 blocks from Chicago Union Station.

Sunday afternoon October 28 I will depart on Amtrak's California Zephyr traveling through Denver, CO; the Colorado Rockies; Reno, NV; and the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Emeryville, CA, arriving October 30. I will stay three nights at the Hyatt House House overlooking the Emeryville Amtrak Station. Emeryville is between Berkely and Oakland across the Bay from San Francisco. Friday, November 2, I will reboard the California Zephyr for my return trip to Chicago arriving Sunday, November 4. Arriving back in Chicago, I will stay two nights November 4 and 5 at the Hampton Inn West Loop before flying home to Nashville on Southwest Airlines out of Chicago's Midway Airport.

Yes, I do plan to post IPhone blog post updates as I travel with a photo or two.

That's all the 2018 travel I have planned. And I have not made any 2019 travel plans but I'm sure I'll be doing some travel in 2019.

Las Vegas September 9-13, 2018

Just returned from a four day visit to Las Vegas and the Bellagio Hotel. While there, I met my Australian friends Mark and Megan Lindner.  The sightseeing highlight of the visit was walking tour of the Neon Museum which houses many of the old neon signs. At the end of the walking tour there was a separate musical illumination show featuring the neon signs. It was great to spend the days catching up with my friends from Aidelaide, Australia.

Las Vegas September 9-13

Now I am staying home or near home until October 23 when I will fly to Chicago to ride Amtrak's Southwest Chief and California Zephyr eight nights with three hotel nights in Emeryville and three hotel nights in Chicago. Currently, this is the last travel I have planned for calendar year 2018. I do plan to do several blog updates as I travel.

Amtrak Trip October - November - October 23 to November 6 I will be riding round trip from Chicago on two Amtrak trains - the Southwest Chief to and from Los Angeles followed by the California Zephyr to and from Emeryville(San Francisco). The focus on this trip is the Amtrak rides so I'll only spend three night in Emeryville and three nights in Chicago. Yes, I will arrive and depart Los Angeles the same day.

More 2018 Travel

As of now I have planned a September trip to Las Vegas to visit with my Australian friends and an Amtrak trip October-November.

Las Vegas Nevada, September 9-13 - Will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, to the Bellagio Hotel for the purpose of spending time with my Aidelaide, Australian friends Mark and Megan Lindner. This is the couple who visited me in Tennessee in 2014. This September they are touring the West Coast of USA and I will spend a couple days with them in Las Vegas. 

Amtrak Trip October - November - October 23 to November 6 I will be riding round trip from Chicago on two Amtrak trains - the Southwest Chief to and from Los Angeles followed by the California Zephyr to and from Emeryville(San Francisco).
