Amtrak's Cardinal and Michigan Trip June 13-24 - Galleries Ready to View

Amtrak's Cardinal Crossing River in West Virginia

Amtrak's Cardinal and Michigan Trip June 13-24  -  Galleries Ready to View

The above photo taken from my roomette window on Amtrak's CARDINAL as we crossed a river in West Virginia is symbolic to me of the everyday America I live in. To me this is the greatness of my country in the midst of the capitol and monuments of our nation's capital Washington, DC; the hustle and bustle of big city USA like Chicago, IL; and the comparative serenity of the typical USA State like Michigan.  I had the privilege of temporarily living in all these places and traveling through everyday America June 13-24.  "My country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty."

If you have followed me on my journey via my travel blogs, you know some of the highlights of my journey through the photos I have already shared. This update is to let you know that all over 700 photos of my journey are ready for you to view in ten galleries which are viewable in three Folders and two additional stand alone galleries. You may access all these galleries from this Photo Galleries web page:

Amtrak's Cardinal and Michigan Trip - Michigan State University & Frankenmuth

Bavarian Inn Restaurant in Frankenmuth

Last two days in East Lansing visiting Michigan State University and Frankenmuth

Spending my last two days visiting with Charles and Mary in East Lansing. On Saturday, Charles took us over to the Michigan State University to visit the campus and also visit his office. My nephew is officially Dr. Charles Owen, Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies Computer Science and Engineering and he has been at MSU 21 years. After the campus visit we returned to his home and Charles grilled chicken and Mary fixed everything else for a good evening meal.

Today, Sunday, we journeyed to visit the world's largest Christmas Store and visit the Bavarian village Frankenmuth. To end the day we ate a delightful Chicken Dinner at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant.

These were the last two days I will be doing blog update for on this trip. Tomorrow I leave early for a day of travel riding Amtrak's Blue Water train from East Lansing back to Chicago and the flying Southwest Airlines Chicago back to Nashville and home.

I've taken over 700 photos on my trip and will be preparing and posting them to my Photo Galleries and then doing a blog update to let you know all the galleries are ready for you to view at  your leisure.

Here are selected photo of our campus tour of Michigan State University.

Amtrak's Cardinal and Michigan Trip - East Lansing, MI, and THE HENRY FORD June 21

THE HENRY FORD Detroit, Michigan

East Lansing, MI, and THE HENRY FORD

I arrived safely in East Lansing, MI, Thursday evening to visit with my nephew Charles and his wife Mary for four nights. They are very good and gracious hosts. Charles will not let me pay for any thing. His comment every time I suggest me paying he says "Don't worry about it."

Friday, we drove to Detroit, MI, to visit THE HENRY FORD. That is the complete name on all the signs but it consists of three attractions - the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, and the factory tour of the Rouge Factory where Henry Ford built the first automobile assembly line and produced the Model A Ford in early 1900's.

We took the Rouge Factory Tour first where we saw the assembly line for the Ford F-150 Truck. No photography of any kind was allowed in the actual factory building. Photography was allowed only in the visitor welcoming area including a display of Fords from the Model A to the F-150 Truck. In the assembly factory we saw from an elevated platform that completely circled the factory floor the complete assembly of the F-150 from assembly of the parts to the assembled truck being driven off the assembly line. It was really very interesting. My nephew Charles owns a F-150 so he really enjoyed seeing the assembly of these trucks. My niece Sandra from Louisiana and her husband Wayne also own a F-150 and I know they would love to have toured this factory also.

We visited Greenfield Village next and ate lunch there and did a short tour of the village so that we could get to the Henry Ford Museum where we completed the day and left just before closing at 5 PM.  This is a very interesting museum and we could have stayed much longer.

Here are selected photos from all three attractions at THE HENRY FORD.

We began the Museum Tour viewing Presidential Vehicles

On the way home to East Lansing we stopped and ate dinner at a good local Mexican Restaurant. We got home my great niece Noel came by and we had a great visit. It was my first time to see her since she was about 10 years old and now she is a graduate of Michigan State University where her dad Charles has been on the faculty for 21 years.

Saturday Morning at home with Charles and Mary

This morning I am hanging out with Charles and Mary at home. This afternoon we are heading over to the MSU campus for a visit and we also get to visit Dr. Charles Owen's office. Later Charles is grilling Chicken and Mary is fixing all the vegetables and salads for a nice home cooked meal.  Tomorrow we are off to do more sightseeing at a German village before I have to pack up and get ready to leave early Monday morning via Amtrak's Blue Water train and Southwest Airlines returning home in Nashville/Franklin by Monday evening. I will post photos from my campus visit and the visit to the German village possibly tomorrow night or after I return home to Nashville early next week.

Here are a few photos I took around Charles and Mary's home this morning. I hope they will forgive me for these impromptu photos.
