Amtrak Winter Adventure January 2017 - January 28-29 Emeryville and Amtrak Coast Starlight

Amtrak Coast Starlight in Station at San Luis Obispo, CA

A Day In Emeryville, CA, and Amtrak's Coast Starlight to Los Angeles, CA

Spent the day Saturday in Emeryville, CA, area. Took a short train ride to Santa Clara, CA, where the new Levi's Stadium is located. It is the home of the San Francisco 49rs.  After walking around this area, I returned to Emeryville and walked to the Bay Street Outdoor Shopping area similar to the Boardwalk in Bossier City, LA. It just a good bit larger and includes upscale shops and restaurants. I usually visit to eat a Fuddruckers(hamburgers) where you put your own toppings on the burger. Saturday night I rested and rearrange my luggage for the day long train ride Sunday on the Coast Starlight to Los Angeles. Here are a few Saturday photos.

Yesterday(Sunday), I boarded Amtrak's Coast Starlight 8:10 AM for the 12 hours ride to Los Angeles. Unlike my 4 hour late trip on this train in October, we were on time all the way to Los Angeles and arrived 1 hour early at 8 AM. The lead photo above is our train in station at San Luis Obispo whee we had a 35 minutes opportunity to get off the train and walk around since we were actually running ahead of schedule. Below are more photos of this trip including stop in San Luis Obispo.  After the stop in San Luis Obispo, we reached to Pacific Ocean in about an hour. Taking photos was difficult since the sun was glaring from the west right over the ocean. Amtrak's train windows are okay to take photos unless the sun in shining bright and then you are taking photos through a dusty shield. Anyway, there are a few of the coast side photos below also.

The not so fun time began after arrival in Los Angeles. I learned as I boarded the Flyaway Bus to LAX to catch shuttle to my hotel that Trump Immigration Order protesters had marched and caused massive traffic problems at the airport both Saturday and Sunday. The bus took us to a parking area near the airport and I had to walk pulling my luggage over a mile to the LAX Hilton. I was not alone because many people were walking and pulling luggage just as I was. As it turned out, it only took me an hour and forty-five minutes from train arrival to get to my hotel, the LAX Hilton. So far this morning things are quiet on the protest front so I'm thinking I should not have any problem tomorrow morning getting to my flight since it departs at 8:35 AM from Los Angeles. Nevertheless, I feel many unhappy days are in the future for my home country no matter what political leanings any of us have.

I took lots of photos crossing the snowy Colorado Rockies and the snow packed Sierra Nevadas. I'll be cleaning and optimizing the photos and let you know when I have updated my photo galleries with these photos. I am planning to be home in Nashville all of February and March. Looking forward to return of Spring.
