April 2017 Amtrak Adventure
Yep, just seven days or one week before I fly Southwest Airlines April 8 Nashville to New Orleans, Louisiana, to begin my next Amtrak adventure. From April 10 to 21 I will ride six different named trains and cross the USA coast to coast westward and then travel back coast to coast eastward.
The destination cities to which I will travel starting from New Orleans are Emeryville, CA; Fresno, CA; Chicago, IL; Bloomington/Normal, IL; Washington, DC; and Philadelphia, PA. I will be riding these Amtrak trains - Crescent, Capitol Limited, California Zephyr, California Corridor San Joaquin, Lincoln Service, and Acela Express. And I'll stay overnight in hotels in New Orleans, Emeryville, Chicago, and Washington, DC. So here is the itinerary.
Saturday, April 8 - Fly Southwest Airlines Nashville to New Orleans. Overnight in Hyatt House on the Loyola Streetcar line.
Sunday, April 9 - Day in New Orleans. Overnight in Hyatt House.
Monday, April 10 - Depart New Orleans on Amtrak's Crescent to Washington, DC.
Tuesday, April 11 - Arrive Washington, DC, and connect to Amtrak's Capitol Limited to Chicago.
Wednesday, April 12 - Arrive Chicago and connect to Amtrak's California Zephyr to Emeryville/San Francisco.
Thursday, April 13 - On board Amtrak's California Zephyr all day crossing Colorado and the Rocky Mountains Denver to Grand Junction.
Friday, April 14 - On board Amtrak's California Zephyr crossing the Sierra Nevadas mountains arriving Emeryville, CA, late afternoon. Overnight in Hyatt House Hotel.
Saturday, April 15 - All day trip on Amtrak's California Corridor San Joaquin Emeryville to Fresno round trip. Overnight in Hyatt House Hotel.
Sunday, April 16, to Tuesday April 18 - Travel on Amtrak's California Zephyr Emeryville to Chicago. Overnight Tuesday, April 18, Hampton Inn Chicago.
Wednesday, April 19 - Morning round trip ride on Amtrak's Lincoln Service Chicago to Bloomington-Normal, IL. Later depart Chicago 6:40 PM on Amtrak's Capitol Limited to Washington, DC.
Thursday, April 20 - Arrive Washington, DC, in afternoon. Overnight in Hilton Garden Inn.
Friday, April 21 - Morning to afternoon round trip ride on Amtrak's Acela Express to Philadelphia. Overnight in Hilton Garden Inn, Washington, DC.
Saturday, April 22 - Afternoon flight Southwest Airlines Washington, DC, to Nashville.
Blog Posts While I Travel
As I travel on this trip I plan to take lots of photos as usual although I now plan to post those photos and update my Reagan's Photo Galleries after I return to Nashville. My plan now is to take one or a few Iphone photos each day and post a short from my Iphone "blog post" with a brief comment. So look for those short posts each day and then the big photo galleries update "blog post" after I return home to Nashville.
Future 2017 Travel Plans
My future 2017 travel plans continue my Amtrak adventures.
May 10-13 Amtrak St. Louis Amtrak Adventure -- Flying Southwest Airlines Nashville to St. Louis to ride Amtrak Missouri River Runner St. Louis to Kansas City and return. Another late afternoon into evening I ride the Lincoln Service train St. Louis to Bloomington-Normal, IL, and return. I'll fly Southwest Airlines home to Nashville on Saturday afternoon.
June 4-20 Amtrak Summer 2017 Amtrak Adventure -- I'm returning to two of my favorite cities while riding four Amtrak trains on this trip. I will fly to New Orleans June 4 staying three nights at the Hyatt House Hotel downtown on the Loyola Streetcar line. Then I will depart New Orleans on Amtrak's Sunset Limited through Houston, TX; El Paso, TX; and Tucson, AZ, to Los Angeles where I will transfer to Amtrak's Coast Starlight through Oakland, CA; Klamath Falls, OR; and Eugene, OR, to Portland, OR, where I will spend four nights visiting this naturally beautiful city and surrounding area. In 1966, I spent three months in Oregon while in training to be an auditor for the now Federal Highway Administration during the building of the Interstate Highway System. Incidentally, that is how I ended up living my entire adult life in Nashville, TN, to which I was permanently assigned after completing my training. June 14 I will travel via Amtrak's Cascades train from Portland to Seattle, WA, to transfer to Amtrak's Empire Builder Seattle to Chicago via Spokane, WA; Whitefish, MT; Glacier Mountains National Park; Havre, MT; Minot, ND; and St Paul/Minneapolis, MN. I will be connecting June 16 in Chicago to Amtrak's City of New Orleans for an overnight trip to New Orleans via Memphis, TN, and Jackson, MS. After three nights in New Orleans I will fly home from New Orleans to Nashville on June 20.
Family Time - In May and July I will be traveling some to be with family for graduation and wedding events. I'll also use that travel to visit with family and friends in North Louisiana and the Dallas, TX, area. I'm not planning to do blog updates during those trips.
Travel Beyond July - Being a Tennessee Titans NFL season ticket owner, I always wait to plan travel for the remaining months of the calendar year until the NFL releases the schedule for the season. That is usually mid April. So stay tuned.
