PREVIEW Amtrak Vacation June 2018

After over three months at home in Nashville/Franklin, TN, I depart Sunday, June 3 on a three week Amtrak Adventure staying five nights in New Orleans, four nights each in New York City and Seattle with brief one night stops in Chicago and Los Angeles. I will ride five Amtrak trains: Crescent New Orleans to New York City; Acela New York City to Washington, DC; Capitol Limited Washington, DC, to Chicago; Empire Builder Chicago to Seattle; and Coast Starlight Seattle to Los Angeles. Overnights in Chicago and Los Angeles are brief overnights to provide connection times between trains in Chicago and between train and airline in Los Angeles. The trip will begin with a Southwest Airline flight Nashville to New Orleans and end with an American Airlines non stop flight Los Angeles to Nashville.

I do like to not over plan but I am looking forward to visits with friends in New York City and attending theater DEAR EVAN HANSEN while there and while in Seattle I plan to do a one day adventure to Mt Rainier and also visit with great nephew and his family. Oh, and I do plan to visit the World War II Museum in New Orleans and attend a matinee performance by the Victory Belles - a vocal trio performing music of the 1940's.

While in New York four years ago, I visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Here is a couple photos that summarized that trip for me.

A Season of Sickness - March 2018
Most of you know that I cancelled my planned Amtrak trip in April. Why? Without all the details, I was one of the victims of the flu and ended up in the hospital for five nights with a UTI and heart arrhythmia. Since I am 76, the UTI had some pretty frightening symptoms. After returning home, it took almost all of April for recovery overcoming a cough that lasted almost two months and regaining my energy and strength and to begin to fill "normal".

Thankfully, I have recovered and was able to drive approximately 500 miles from Nashville to my Louisiana home in Shreveport/Bossier City, LA in early May to visit with family and attend high school graduation of a very special young lady friend.

2018 Travel

As of now I have planned a September trip to Las Vegas to visit with my Australian friends and an Amtrak trip October-November.

Las Vegas Nevada, September 9-13 - Will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, to the Bellagio Hotel for the purpose of spending time with my Aidelaide, Australian friends Mark and Megan Lindner. This is the couple who visited me in Tennessee in 2014. This September they will be touring the West Coast of USA and I will spend a couple days with them in Las Vegas. 

Amtrak Trip October - November - October 23 to November 6 I will be riding round trip from Chicago on two Amtrak trains - the Southwest Chief to and from Los Angeles followed by the California Zephyr to and from Emeryville(San Francisco). The focus on this trip is the Amtrak rides so I'll only spend three night in Emeryville and three nights in Chicago. Yes, I will arrive and depart Los Angeles the same day.
